FSc Chemistry Book2, CH 3, LEC 9 Chemical Properties of Orthboric Acid - Boric Acids (Part 3)

This video lecture from Group IIIA and Group IVA Elements (F.Sc. second year Chemistry) covers the chemical properties of orthoboric acid. The acidic nature of boric acid is discussed. It has no effect on methyl orange while it turns blue litmus red because of lower acidic character. Boric acid reacts with caustic soda and soda ash to form borax. Heat decomposes orthoboric acid into metaboric acid which further decomposes into tetraboric acid and finally into boric anhydride.
