This video lecture from Electrochemistry (F.Sc. first year Chemistry) covers some electrolytic processes of industrial importance. Sodium, magnesium and calcium are extracted from their fused chlorides respectively through electrolysis. Caustic soda is prepared in the Nelson’s cell where an aqueous solution of sodium chloride is used as electrolyte. The process of electrolysis also finds its application in the purification process of various metals and also in the process of electroplating which is discussed in detail in the lecture with examples.
