FSc Chemistry Book2, CH 12, LEC 20: Oxidation of Aldehydes

This video lecture from Aldehydes and Ketones (F.Sc. second year Chemistry) covers the oxidation reactions of aldehydes. Aldehydes can be oxidized easily in the presence of weak oxidizing agents like Tollen’s reagent, or Fehling’s solution other than acidified dichromate and acidified permanganate solutions which are strong oxidizing agents. Acidic solution in water and silver oxide may also serve the purpose. The reaction steps include hydrate formation followed by removal of hydrogen or oxidation. The final product is a carboxylic acid with same number of carbons as the starting aldehydes. Find more e-learning material and educational video lectures in Urdu at maktab.pk.
