FSc Chemistry Book2, CH 13, LEC 1: Introduction and Nomenclature

This video lecture from Carboxylic Acids (F.Sc. second year Chemistry) covers an introduction to carboxylic acids and their nomenclature. These are derivatives of carbonyl compounds with a hydroxyl- group attached adjacent to the carbonyl- hence their name. The general names of common carboxylic acids are discussed along with the IUPAC nomenclature which replaces the –e of the corresponding alkane with-oic acid hence alkanoic acids. The carboxyl- group has the highest priority while selecting the chain and naming of most aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. Various derivatives of carboxylic acids such as esters, acid amides and acid halides are also discussed. Find more e-learning material and educational video lectures in Urdu at maktab.pk.
